Gender discrimination and its effect on employees satisfaction, commitment and stress level - Case study in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to study the subject of gender discrimination
in workforce and its effect on job satisfaction, commitment and stress level of
personnel. Specifically, the research is conducted to explore how much workers is
discriminated by sex in public and private sector and how gender discrimination relates
on satisfaction, commitment and stress level of discriminated employees. Hence, data
is obtained 276 employees who are working in both public and private organizations in
Ho Chi Minh City. Gender discrimination was measured through independent samplest test method to compare the difference of discrimination between public and private
organizations. As a result, the discrimination level based on gender dominates in public
sector than in private sector. Three dimensions of gender discrimination are included in
this research that satisfaction, commitment and stress level was assessed through
Pearson product-moment correlation co-efficient. The data analysis indicated that
gender discrimination turns to reduce job satisfaction, decrease commitment of staffs,
and raises the level of stress in the employees.
