An investigation on the relationship between oil price and Vietnam stock market - A case study from HOSE
Abstract
Previous research suggested that stock exchange operation is influenced by oil price
fluctuation because a rise in this energy sector usually cause worry about revenues as
well as market development. Nevertheless, results for developing countries do not
give a clarification regarding the effects.
There has been several controversies surrounding the possibility of impact of oil
prices fluctuations on Vietnamese stock market in point of fact that Vietnam is a
country which exports crude oil and imports almost one hundred percent refined oil
for so long ago. It can be inferred that if world oil price changes, there will be a
change in domestic oil price and it will affect the market in either positive or negative
way. The purpose of this thesis is to offer deeper understanding in the topic with two
key variables. The time length that is put under academic investigation is between
2009 and 2015 using daily data from reliable sources. In short, the conclusion to be
drawn is that no long term relationsip presented. The analysis from this research can
be used as a future reference for other academic scholars and stock participants if
necessary
