The effect of leaders' teamworking and conflict management on employee mood and job engagement - An empirical study in hospitality industry in Ho Chi Minh city
Abstract
The economy competition has become more and more intense, which encourage organizations in hospitality to focus on their human capital to maintain brand consistency and brand loyalty. In order to support talent management in hospitality, the research was conducted with the attempt to investigate the relationship between teamworking and conflict management of leaders and employee job engagement (EMJOEN) through the mediation of positive mood (EMPOMO).
Quantitative approach was utilized to explore the data of 383 respondents which are current employees working in the industry in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). The research outcome indicated that both independent variables - leaders‟ teamworking (TEWO), and leaders‟ conflict management (CONMAN) have significantly effect on EMJOEN. While TEWO had indirect influence on EMJOEN via EMPOMO, CONMAN obtained both direct and indirect effect on EMJOEN through the mediation of employee positive mood (EMPOMO).
From the research findings, strategic recommendations were developed to increase the level of teamworking and conflict management of leaders. Further organizations in hospitality could maintain long-term employees thanks to the increase in job engagement which is mediated by positive mood.
