The impact of terrorism threat on the choice for transportation of the young when travelling abroad - The scope of Vietnam
Abstract
This paper, under qualitative approach, is conducted to discover the traits of choosing means of transportation in response to terrorism threat and terrorist attacks of Vietnamese young travellers when traveling abroad, whether they would go for public transportation or the private ones. This goal is achieved by assessing two scenarios among the group of respondents through in-depth interviews: one is about a happened incidents and the other concerns the threat and social instability. Information obtained through the interviews also helps to clarify how young generation perceive and interpret the term ‘terrorism’. Findings revealed that young respondents in Vietnam interpreted ‘terrorism’ in terms of personal judgement, general facts and also specific facts with a neutral manner. It is also suggestive that in terms of responding to negative incidents, those who were aware of detail information of terrorist news were more likely to stay loyal to public vehicles than those with personal judgement and general theme.
There still existed limitations in processing this kind of study. First of all, because of the peaceful social environment that might narrow the awareness of the respondents towards this issue. Moreover, with the population of only 10 people, the reality of the dominant trait of each approach might be varied since the difference in percentage is high while it is little for that in quantity of interviewees.
