Factors that impact on housing satisfaction of college/university students regarding renting accommodations in Ho Chi Minh city - Vietnam
Abstract
Recently, the increasing in the number of college and university students has raised a question for the capacity of schools and dormitory rooms. However, there are many vacant rooms but students still willingly pay more to stay outside since they are not satisfied with the housing situation of the dormitory. This paper studies factors that impact on students’ housing satisfaction in order to provide a better insight for this potential market segmentation. The research applies quantitative method to study the impact of 5 factors (Types of ownership, housing characteristics, location, privacy and price perception) on housing satisfaction of students in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. The findings show that Types of ownership does not affect the level of satisfaction as opposed to the quality of housing characteristic, convenience and safety of location, price perception. Moreover, students who have separate bathrooms tend to have a significant higher level of satisfaction for their accommodations compared to students who share bathrooms with other tenants. These findings can be helpful suggestions for institutional dormitory, private landlords or service companies when it comes to finding solutions for improving the tenants’ satisfaction in the most effective and efficient approaches.
