A study on employee motivation factors: The case of big coffee Ltd.
Abstract
This research is conducted in order to develop a model measuring employee motivation factors of Big Coffee ltd, and study the impacts of the factors on employee motivations.
The research has been conducted from February 2012 to May 2012 in Hochiminh city. The reviewing of literature, related theories and research proposes different motivation factor model. However, the research has come up with the model made from five motivation theories to derive the model‟ own motivation factors: Expectancy theory (Vroom, 1964), Equity theory (Adam, 1963), Goal-setting theory (Katzell & Thompson,
1990), Job-design (Hackman & Oldham, 1980), Maslow‟s need hierarchy (Maslow,
1943).
After setting up research model and design, the interview protocol is formulated
in form of semi-structured interview. Later on, interview questions are adjusted to be suit with the context of Big Coffee ltd after the interview protocol testing phase. The interview protocol is then applied for data collecting.
The responses from nine interviews were analyzed with cross case analysis and
the final results come up with three main motivation factors on employee motivation in
Big Coffee ltd. The three factors are goals, rewards and equity.
Although there are limitations of this study, this study is proposed with some practical implications and recommendations in order to improve employee motivation level of Big Coffee ltd in Hochiminh city.
