The role of export in GDP growth and revealed comparative advantage of Vietnam's export in the period 2001- 2011
Abstract
Numerous literatures have documented the relationship between exports and economic growth but not so many to emphasiza the important role of export in GDP growth. This study examines the roles of export in GDP growth during period 2001 – 2011. This timeliness of the study prsented positive effect of export in GDP growth in Vietnam in the long run. This is a great meaning in the developing of economy in Vietnam. In 2010, for example, percent increase of export was double in its GDP. That was confirming the role of export in GDP growth.
Beside that it also attempt to evaluate the revealed comaparative advantage of Vietnam’s export in the world market during the time 2001 - 2011. This is followed by an analysis of revealed comparative advantage (RCA) in trade between Vietnam and the rest of the wrold. The RCA index have been calculated
at the commodity level of the Harmonized Syatem – 4 digit base on theory of Balassa (1965) to whether a country enjoys a revealed comparative advantage or not. The findings of this study adds new growing tendency of Vietnam’s
comparative advantage and suggests directions for furture research.
