Methods for extraction of refined carrageenan (RC) from seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) with enzymatic treatment
Abstract
The extracting method have been relied on foreign documentations, afterward technical parameters was investigated con corrected to find out optimal values for Kappaphycus alvarezii which is cultivated in Vietnam. The yield of refined Carrageenan relies very much on the extraction method. Several method of extraction i.e traditional-boiling, alkali – treated, enzyme- treated or combined alkali and enzyme treated was studied according to the optimized conditions
(temperature, time , concentration chemicals and ratio sample/water) stated
by previous studies. The aim of my thesis is to identify the best extraction method with optimal conditions to be used to obtain high yield of refined Carrageenan. The highest yield was obtained through combined alkali and enzyme treated
(0.05% v/w enzyme and NaOH 4%) was 45.55% in 95 mins at 85oC .
This studies must be focusing on the incorporation of the benefits from two methods i.e alkali treated and enzyme treated than use the alkali or enzyme
to extract carrageenan from seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii. Combined
between alkali and enzyme method will decrease amount of alkali and enzyme and increase the quality and yield of RC processing. The cellulase treatment reduced the relative viscosity of the RC.
