This report presents a method for determining the relative permittivity (dielectric constant) of a PCB’s substrates. In the presented method, a 100mm long transmission line on the PCB substrate with a user-predicted dielectric constant value is designed and fabricated. Then the Vector Network Analyzer is used to measure the magnitude and phase of S11 and S21 of the transmission line. The measured data then inputted to Optimization functionality in Advance Design System (ADS) software to compare with a simulated data. The Optimization functionality plays the role as an adaptive algorithm that used the measured data as a goal. It tries to match simulated data to the goal. If it is matched, the program will stop and give us the result. Key words: Relative permittivity (dielectric constant), Vector Network Analyzer, transmission line, Optimization functionality, ADS Software.en_US
