There has been increasing needs in supporting data application over networks with both wire- line and wireless links. Many standard data applications used in current wired networks are base on the reliable TCP, which did work well in traditional networks where packets losses are mainly due to network congestion. However, TCP performance gets several affected in wireless environment where the wireless link is typically characterized by random errors due to fading and shadowing. There have been many schemes proposed to improve the performance of TCP over networks that have high BER wireless links. In this study, we would like to present our research on several mechanisms that have been proposed to optimize TCP performance over wireless and our motivation on it.en_US
