Hydroxyapatite (HA) is the mineral component of bones and teeths. In this research, HA was prepared from biosources (bovine bone) and chemical procedure. For the bio-sources methodology, bovine bone was collect from three types such as adult cow, caft and waste. HA was produced from bovine bone by the calcination process at 800⁰C for 3 hours. For the chemical process, HA was synthesized with microwave-assistance for heating the mixture of calcium dihydroxide and phosphoric acid with starting molar ratio of Ca/P equal to 1.67 and pH value adjusted to 6 and 12 to induce chemical reaction. The sources of bovine bone and the pH value of chemical procedure affected the quality and bioactivities of HA. The X-Ray diffraction analysis (XRD) results and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that HA has been successfully produced by both produces with high purity. The result of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed the difference in particle shape and size of HA powders depending on their original source and method of preparation. The biocompatibility of HA was evaluated by in vivo implantation in mice. There was no inflammation detected after implantation. Mice in implanted with bovine HA prepared from adult cow and caft showed a faster wound healing than those implanted with chemical HA. The group of HA waste bone were totally rejected day 14. These results showed that HA prepared from bio sources had good biocompatibility ability, stable shape and high purity than HA synthesized from chemical sources.
