Evaluation of genetic diversity of piper genus using molecular markers
Abstract
Vietnam has been in the world’s top producer and exporter of black pepper.
Among issues relating to black pepper, cultivation in Viet Nam and their
resistance to pathogen were the most important. The aim of this research
was evaluating genetic diversity of Piper genus and select resistance line for
breeding. Seven pepper genotypes were analyzed by random amplified
polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Seven RAPD primers were selected for
comparative of different 7 genotypes of pepper, which 4 primer amplified
total 47 bands, and 39 bands (83%) were polymorphic. The average genetic
diversity was 0.93 across all species. Genetic distance ranged from 0.21 to
2.39. The result of this study will be a premise of further researches and
facilitate germplasm identification, management, and conservation.
