Documents like certificates or student transcripts issued by educational institutions are one of the most vital documents for graduates. These documents proves the qualification of a person and could be used to apply for a job or other related matters. The advancement of today's inf ormation technology and the availability of low cost and high quality office equipment have enabled documents such as certificates, identity cards and passports easier to be faked However, document verification process using traditional methods are mostly costly and very time consuming. Accordingly, the c urrent objective of this report is to come up with a n ideal model that can offer a potential solution for the issuing and verification of academic paper using blockchain technology. The blockchain technolo gy contains several functions including hash, public/private key cryptography, digital signatures, peer to peer networks and proof of work protocol . The model can be divided into two main processes, issuing digital academic certificate s and verifying them The proposed model showed that academic certificate authentication using blockchain technology might overcome the challenges when verify ing academic certificate authenticity in the existing traditional methodsen_US
