Wireless sensor networks design for automatic electricity meter network
Abstract
The number of household is rapidly increasing without control in many developing countries. It will lead to complicated infrastructure and the collection data of electricity becomes very hard problem. Therefore, an automatic electricity meter system based on wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is proposed to response this problem. This system includes: collecting data nodes, a data base station node and a remote center. WSN design for automatic electricity meter (AEM) is suitable not only developed country but also developing country because it is just small and low cost nodes, low power consumption and easy to implement.
This thesis work focuses on studying and understanding topology, network configuration, protocol and hardware of WSN for AEM. Furthermore, the NS-2 simulation tool is also applied to evaluation the packet delivery ratio (PDR) inside network. Based on Texas Instrument CC1110 development kit, data gathering network for automatic electricity meter will be investigated. From the database from NS-2 simulation, this study can be implemented into the real life more effective. By using automatic electricity meter network, the electricity meter records will be sent automatically to the remote center, therefore help reducing the data collection labor expense.
