Study and implementation of search mechanisms for decentralized online social networkLe Thanh Nha
Abstract
Online Social Network (OSN) has been a mean for people to communicate and keep
contact with each other. More and more individuals are joining, using and even
earning from OSNs. Thus, it is undeniable that OSNs have brought many benefits to
users. There are, however, some privacy considerations (ownership) and limitations
from its architecture (scalability). The formation of Decentralized Online Social
Network (DOSN) is to resolve these problems. Currently, some services have been
implemented for DOSN such as text-based posting and uploading services. One of the
most important factors, however, is search mechanism. It is such a necessary service
for any kind of social networks because it helps people to discover things around. The
objective of this report is to propose a search approach for DOSN based on Gnutella
protocol, which will enable users to search for specific information (statuses,
comments, contacts and shared files) under privacy and access controls.
