Design of drainage system for Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe basin, Ho Chi Minh City
Abstract
Urbanization is an inevitable process of any country in the world, including Vietnam. However, spontaneous urbanization, lack of scientific planning and appropriate supporting system will cause and leave many negative consequences in long term, obstruct the development of the country. One of them should be seen clearly as the severe effects of the flooding in several regions generally in Vietnam and specifically in Ho Chi Minh city. Not only would it bring about the delay in the city’s growth but also the damage to the structures and the lives of the citizens in the process. Thus, to avoid these unnecessary impacts, a lot of effort should be contributed from both the government and the people in the city as well as an amount of good measurements and systems to counter the worst results. For this particular study, the design of a suitable and high-quality drainage system will be utilized for the stopping of the flood problem in one of the potential areas that sustain the damages from it, Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe basin for a long period of time.
It is obvious that only the help from just the drainage system could not fully solve the problem. However, aside from the encouragement on the citizens and the support from the country, the infrastructure of the drainage system will also provide a noticeable and undeniable benefit to subside the flood in the area. Therefore, that drainage treatment must be well designed to meet all the requirements from the factors of climate, terrain and the urbanization as well as a detailed design for the most-affective area must be used to simulate and make sure that it is adaptable.
In this study, only the rain water will be considered for the design of the drainage system in Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe basin. At the end of the study, a better detail design of the storm water drainage system will be provided to stop the flood in the mentioned area.
