Developing a book management system for a digital library
Abstract
At the present time, many digital libraries and online resources are introduced and developed, such as Taylor Fancies, Google Scholar, etc. These databases help many people like students, teachers or researchers easily find materials or books which are related to their majors. The online web system can help users interact in the real time. However, the problem is that the more developing technology is, the wider and more complex data becomes, and users may not be able to find expected information in such huge database with only simple queries. In fact, it will take a lot of time and challenges for users to complete their search. Currently, the library system of International University is facing exactly the problem mentioned above. In this thesis, Digital Library System is built and integrated with a recommender system, an ontology-based search tool and a web portal.
The recommender system is applied based on two techniques which are content-based collaborative filtering and hybrid. The system uses users’ borrowing histories to suggest books for their next visit to the webpage. Moreover, the ontology-based searching and web portal are integrated into the system to improve searching function to achieve more relevant key words and get more results from different sites. This thesis provides the design, structure, analysis, implementation of above techniques and the user interface of digital library.
