Flood Mapping In The Mekong Delta Region Using Sentinel-1 SAR Data On Google Earth Engine
Abstract
Mekong delta is considered the largest granary in Vietnam, however the annual flooding of the
region caused flooding over a wide area. Flooding in the Mekong delta not only brings resources
to the regional population, but also it has brought the loss of many lives and properties.
Therefore, the management of water resource and validation of flooding in this area is required.
This study aims to explore the flooding information from radar data, Sentinel-1 acquired from
2015 to 2019 of Mekong Delta by using the Google Earth Engine, a cloud-based remote sensing
platform. Afterward this study maps the flooded area by year to illustrate how the flood patterns
have changed in the recent years.
