Ensete glaucum is considered as traditional medicines with many therapeutic effects on human health with properties to enhance the life quality. The present study targeted at investigating the in vitro antioxidants properties of E. glaucum seed hydroalcoholic extract through DPPH, ABTS, reducing power assays, also evaluating the xanthine oxidase inhibitory capacity and hypouricemic activity in potassium oxonate-induced hyperuricemic mice model. The results showed that the extract contains significant amounts of total polyphenol and flavonoid contents which were 1.07 mg GAE/g DW and 0.23 mg QE/g DW, respectively. Also, it released the contribution as antioxidants by the results of DPPH, ABTS and reducing power assays, the IC50 were equivalent to 2.32, 2.84 and 4.69 mg dried seeds/mL rice wine, respectively. For the xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity, the extract also showed the potential inhibiting ability by the IC50 which was equivalent to 15.7 mg dried seeds/mL rice wine. Finally, the in vivo hyperuricemic mice model with pretreatment of repeated doses-14 days of the extract (6 mL/kg and 12 mL/kg respectively) rose uric acid levels of mice significantly, compared to the groups of non-alcoholic consuming mice. Combining all the results, the study has demonstrated that E. glaucum hydroalcoholic extract from seeds confirmed the antioxidants potential but the preventing and treating potential of hyperuricemia were not shown as expectation.en_US
