Application of Zigbee in Traffic Light Control System
Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is one of the hot topics that many researchers are
attracted. Due to its wide range of applications and its main problem of energy resource limitation, the development of standardization faces some difficulties. The emergence of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard opens a new era for the low-data-rate and low-power-consumption applications in Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). The topic of this thesis is the application of Zigbee which is based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard in traffic light control network. The goal is to use the Zigbee MRF24J40MA interfaced with PIC 18F4620 and WPAN 801.15.4 protocol to transmit the information of traffic light between the intersections. This thesis project devided into
3 parts:
(1) Establishing a simple wireless sensor network using two Zigbee enabled devices.
(2) Development the traffic light control network which include 2 intersection of traffic light system.
(3) Interconnecting the circuit with Zigbee device for transmitting the information for traffic light control.
In details, I created a Zigbee network system which includes 2 nodes: one coordinator and one end device. The information of traffic light (Red–Green–Yellow light status, time between the changes) will be transmitted to end device (the other intersection). The end device will receive the data and then operate the controlling light to create
synchronization between the nodes.
