Broadcasting GPS information over RF channels
Abstract
Each year, hundreds of storms threat to the lives of man, especially fishermen and their boats on Viet Nam sea areas. In case of emergency, in order to locate fishermen and their ship to rescue as soon as possible, a GPS information network is required. Besides, this thesis also applies to protect wildlife and traffic management.
Via this thesis - a solution to implement a two- way GPS information network will be researched. This thesis aims to integrate radio frequency transmitter on GPS device for conveying location information for very far distance and by converting location information in NMEA message to radio signal to transmit over typical radio channels.
My research includes 4 parts:
1. Receiving data from a GPS device and transferring to a micro-processor via a converter.
2. Extracting data of locations and others from NMEA messages and saving in the micro- processor.
3. Converting data from micro-processor to DTMF signals by using IC.
4. Transferring DTMF signal to the air medium by utilizing marine radio devices.
My thesis’s results will be integrated with Mr. Quy Hoang’s work to build a completed
ad-hoc GPS information network on the sea to identify the location.
