Traffic Light Signal Timing At Rush Hours: A Case Study At An Phu Intersection
Abstract
Traffic density in Vietnam has increased rapidly, leading to frequent and prolonged
traffic jams. Therefore, traffic light systems play an important role in controlling and
regulating vehicles at intersections to limit traffic jams. In this study, I propose a
simulation modeling method using Arena software. Accordingly, research will be carried
out to solve the problem of traffic jams at the intersection of Thuan An, Binh Duong.
The model is built based on actual data collected from this area during peak hours. Then,
by combining different modules, a model will be developed to represent the logic of the
actual system. After validating the model, the option considered to use is to change the
time of the signal lights. After conducting simulation, the results show that the
improvement in average waiting time of vehicles at My Phuoc - Tan Van road is
significantly reduced. The model is built based on actual data collected from this area

bring positive results in solving traffic jams. The model can be applied to different reallife traffic conditions. Based on the traffic characteristics of each intersection, custom
changes are applied to provide accurate simulation results.
