Student modelling in educational socail network
Abstract
Career counseling is helpful for students during their study time in universities. Good advices can help them to select a suitable job for themselves and have right preparation for their future. In order to help counselors to understand their students, user modeling techniques can formulate student models to support advisors
to efficiently manage and reason on students’ information. An ontology-based user modeling method has been introduced in an educational social network, so-called SoNITS. From preliminary results of the SoNITS project, I continue to improve the method of ontology-based user modeling in my thesis. Academic results of students and training curricula of school of Computer Science are employed to build student models in SoNITS. Three aided tools are introduced to support visualization of student models as well as data editing. Results indicated that abilities of IT students
including weaknesses as well as strengths are evident through the radar chart.
