dc.description.abstract | Internship plays an important role in assisting students at tertiary level. However, during internships, students face various challenges, such as difficulties finding suitable
positions, managing multiple systems, and tracking progress. The lack of effective
progress tracking can prevent students from receiving the support they need. Therefore, this thesis proposes an interactive Student Internship and job assistance System (iSIS)
that aims to address the challenges faced by students in finding internships that meet
school requirements and navigating various tools and platforms to complete the
internship process. The system also helps teachers track student internship progress and
support them in finding job opportunities. The key feature of the system is its search functionality, which contains all of the
partnership companies of our university, enabling students to find job opportunities that
meet the school's requirements more quickly. In addition, the system allows for efficient
management of internship confirmation, reports, and grades, and provides officers with
more access to support teachers in the internship course. Furthermore, iSIS offers
feedback ratings and comments from past participants, allowing new internship students
to make an informed decision when selecting a potential company for their internship. The system is implemented using the MERN stack, with Material-table used for
information management and Filestack for managing uploaded PDF files. To further evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed iSIS system, a
comprehensive evaluation scheme was designed using two approaches. The first
approach, called internship-assisted evaluation, targets educators, students, officers, and
companies, and uses evaluation criteria such as searching and submission, internship
progress management, report, and grade. Participants were required to experience the
proposed iSIS and provide feedback through questionnaires and comments. The second
approach, called system functionality evaluation, focuses on interactivity, interface, ease
of use, usability, and visualization, and targets educators, students, officers, and IT
experts. This evaluation approach used iSIS system testing, including user testing, questionnaires, and comments. Both evaluation approaches used Likert-scale scoring and
statistical analysis tools. The preliminary results of this evaluation revealed that the
proposed iSIS system has the potential to effectively assist students in searching for jobs
and managing their internships. Through evaluation, to enhance the functionality and impact of the iSIS system, future plans include extending it to other departments within and outside the university
and implementing a chat application for effective communication. Moreover, the
machine learning algorithms will be incorporated to provide personalized job
recommendations based on students' skills, experience, and interests. Furthermore, the
system will also have a mobile application version for increased accessibility, with real time notifications and location-based job searches. In addition to improvement of
interactivity, the iSIS system will be enhanced with the addition of chat functionality for
effective communication between students, employers, educators, and officers. Finally, a
comprehensive evaluation of the full-scale iSIS system with these additional features
would provide a more robust understanding of its effectiveness in assisting students with
their career development and job search | en_US |
