dc.description.abstract | Today, traffic congestion has been increasing worldwide as a result of increasing motorization, urbanization, population growth, and changes in population density. Congestion reduces efficiency of transportation infrastructure and increases travel time, air pollution, and fuel consumption. To solve that problem, many countries have built the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) based on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology. Wireless Sensor Network technology is used in many application of Intelligent Transport System, such as Road Tolling System, Traffic Monitoring, Car Parking, etc. The purpose of this study is investigating the WSN technology for ITS application, especially in Wireless Traffic Sign (WTS) application.
Goals of this thesis project are firstly studying about Wireless Sensor Network
(WSN) technology and researching the Zigbee/ IEEE 802.15.4 specification. Then, based
on Microchip PICDEM Z kit, a small WTS network is implemented in this thesis work. The network can be used to send information from wireless traffic signs to vehicle’s monitor for driving assistance or traffic warning. In the other hand, a GPRS gateway is also developed for this wireless traffic signs network, in order to send information from a remote control center to a specific wireless node for traffic light controlling or traffic information notification.
My thesis’s result will become a basis for implementing the complete
Intelligent Transport System in Vietnam. The developer can add more functions to optimize this system. | en_US |
