Factors affecting employee performance through a mediation of job satisfaction - An empirical study of hospitality industry in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam
Abstract
The research is conducted to explore the relationship between job satisfaction
and job performance of employees who are working in Hospitality Industry in Ho Chi
Minh City, Vietnam. Furthermore, it can be explained that there are six factors, including
career development, team spirit, relationship at work, compensation and benefit, working
environment, job stress; additionally, the factor of job satisfaction, all of which affect
employee performance. There is only a quantitative method that is applied in the thesis
due to the limitation of budget and time. Questionnaires are used to collect data from the
respondents working in Hospitality Industry in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the results from exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha
values, multiple regressions, and path analysis exploring the effects of six independent
variables on employee performance through the mediation of job satisfaction, this
empirical study is concluded that job satisfaction is the most important factor influencing
on job performance of employees working in hotels/restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City;
additionally, the factors relating to relationships at work, career development, team spirit
and working environment also have the positive effects on employee job performance.
On the other hand, some current problems relating to job stress and compensation and
benefit affect negligibly and cause the negative effects on employee job performance.
In conclusion, the level of employee performance will become higher
positively in Hospitality Industry in Ho Chi Minh City if employees, who are working in
hotels/restaurants, feel really satisfied with their current jobs. To explain furthermore,
when employees can have many opportunities and promotions to develop their careers,
can build many good relationships with their managers and colleagues, can cooperate
with their team members in the higher team spirit as well as working environment can
meet their expectation; as a result, they will maintain their current jobs and exert their
distributions and their job performances efficiently to their current organizations.
