Factors influencing export performance - Multiple cases of Vietnamese companies
Abstract
The thesis focuses on different factors which can influence Vietnamese companies‟
export performance to foreign markets. A literature review for previous researches about both
success and obstacles for export have been conducted, which served as conceptual for this
thesis. According to the studies, there are some obstacles such as into regulatory, economic,
social and cultural environment. On the other hand, factors of organizational and managerial
level contribute to the success of export.
The study applied qualitative approach, where two respondents from LOTUS FOOD
CO., LTD and AN TUAN IMPORT - EXPORT CO., LTD were interviewed. Moreover, they
also provided necessary documents to contribute information for the research. In the present
research, the following findings about influence of internal and macro-external factors were
made. For instance, firm size almost does not impact on its possibility to export, but it can
support companies to express customer. However, international competence, export
experience, and managerial characteristics are important for companies‟ successful export.
On the other hand, macro-external factors from foreign markets such as economic,
regulatory, socio-culture can be as obstacles for export, if companies do not focus and
understand them carefully before and during export process. The research of two cases from
LOTUS FOOD CO., LTD and AN TUAN IMPORT - EXPORT CO., LTD has made
conclusion which can give some guidelines for Vietnamese companies that already export or
consider starting export.
