Understanding the impact of interior design on job performance - A study on Hospitality employees in Vietnam
Abstract
Working in the hospitality industry nowadays is no long a new trend of career. Although workers in this field are required lots of special characteristics such as having strong control of pressure, time management, multitasking, problem-solving, professional acting and so on, their working environment, which partially integrate with the guest-serving environment has not been significantly paid attention to. This study is aimed to explore the impact of factors of surrounding environment on hospitality job performance. Quantitative method has been approached in this study following by random questionnaire distributing for data collection. The results were found by descriptive, reliability, validity and regression. This study came out with a remarkable finding that Spatial Arrangement significantly influences on hospitality employees' job performance. The other factors such as Furniture, Music, Temperature, Lighting, Presence of Plants and Flowers, Color and Air Quality have been explored that having moderate influence. It is noticeable that descriptive, reliability and validity support for the finding that all these factors have influenced on job performance. Exceptionally, the regression analysis excluded the impact of Music, Color and Lighting on job performance of hospitality workers. Accordingly, merely Presence of Plants and Flowers, Spatial Arrangement, Furniture, Air Quality and Temperature have a relationship with the factor of Job Performance.
This study has limitation in term of scope and data collection method. The scope is quite narrowed which mainly focus on Vietnamese hospitality workers in Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang City. The data collection method might be biased due to participants' personal interest and emotion.
