Perception Of Generation Z Towards Employee Engagement In Vietnam
Abstract
Generation Z is emerging into the workforce and reshaping the
organizational structure in Vietnam; however, little is known about their employee
engagement – a factor that plays a key role in the success of any organization. This
paper aims to investigate Generation Z’s perception of employee engagement, the
antecedents, and outcomes related to it, and to fill the research gap in the literature
review concerning this topic. To answer that question, the author, under a
qualitative approach, conducted several in-depth interviews with open-ended
questions among senior students and fresh graduates from 21 to 27 years old in Ho
Chi Minh City. The results demonstrated that there is a lack of understanding of
Generation Z in Vietnam regarding employee engagement. The study also displayed
some elements affecting employee engagement, which are the relationships with
co-workers and managers, the opportunity for development, organizational culture,
job fit, and salary, bonus, and benefits. The findings also presented the results of a
high level of engagement, including enhanced working attitude, performance, and
results, as well as increased employee involvement level. On this basis, it is
suggested that further research needs more studies on a larger scale to thoroughly
address the understanding of Generation Z in Vietnam and to develop the right
model that truly reflects that perception.
