This research is conducted to figure out the status of Vietnam economy in the time of EU sovereign debt crisis. By scanning through two representatives, which are most related to the global market, Vietnam export and FDI in relation to European countries in both quality and quantity aspects, can propose the answer for the general picture. This research has been conducted from February 2012 to May 2012. The reviewing of literature, related theories and former researches provides the tools for forming the most appropriate conceptual framework in order to interpret and understand the data. All of the data collected from the publicly available sources were presented in forms of charts, tables for the descriptive analysis. The data relating to the volume of export to EU, FDI registered capital from EU and EU debt levels in the time span from 2000 to 2011 were collected. In both Vietnam FDI and Export cases, the analysis from the quantity aspect shows a little negative impact of EU debt crisis on these two sectors. However, during the debt crisis, the changing structures of Vietnam FDI and export in relation with EU have been compatible with the changing pattern of Vietnam FDI and export in the world market. Which can be said that EU debt crisis does not involve much in the quality changes of Vietnam export and FDI. Although the research is not yet able to quantify the extent of the impacts, it has proposed a better understanding about how EU debt crisis may impose an impact on Vietnam export and FDI as well as how these two sectors has been changing recently. Despite Vietnam hasn’t been affected severely by the crisis, as Vietnam becomes more integrating to the world economy, it is still necessary to keep track with the issues in global market such a crisis.en_US
