dc.description.abstract | One of the main benefits of heterotrophic bacteria in bio-floc technology is high ammonia removal rate in aquaculture ponds. In this present study we identified three strains of heterotrophic bacteria that were able to remove ammonia in high rates. Floc samples were formed by adding organic carbon into shrimp pond’s water in XuyenMoc, Ba Ria Vung Tau province and then used to isolate floc-associated bacteria. Among the isolated strains Exiguobacterium aestuarii, Pseudomonas stutzeri, and Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes were able to decrease Ammonia concentration by 52.5%; 42.5% and 39.7% respectively in C/N medium with ratio 4, where pH was 7 at 300C after 24 hours. These findings form the first step in developing bio-floc technology for aquaculture in Vietnam.
