Preparation and biological activity of calcium carbonate nanoparticles
Abstract
Combined nano calcium carbonates( CaCO3) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin
D3) have been successful synthesized by using the bottom-up method with sizes
ranging from 50-500nm. Nano-calcium carbonates were analyzed by field-
emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and powder X-ray diffraction
(XRD). The effects of different concentrations between CaCl2.2H2O and Na2CO3;
the influence of the amount of PEG6000 on the sizes and shapes of precipitated
particles of CaCO3 were investigated. As result, acute toxicity with dose from
0.33, 0.65 to 1.30g/kg body weight and sub-chronic oral toxicity test with dose
of 1.30g/kg body weight were tested to establish the safety of this product for
long-term oral administration. In vivo results of serum calcium concentration of
mice studies indicated that orally administered nano-calcium carbonate/vitamin
D3 can enhance the serum calcium concentration. It could be concluded that in
nano calcium carbonate is more bioavailable than in micro calcium carbonate in
test mice.
