This study evaluates toxicity of functional food against diabetes from Euphorbia thymifolia Linn. combined with four medicinal herbs: Dioscorea oppositifolia Lour., Achyranthes aspera L., Lasia spinosa Thwaites. and Adenosma caeruleum R. Br. Strong hypoglycemic activity of Euphorbia thymifolia Linn. has been demonstrated by Dr. Hoang Le Son’s research group in 2013. An idea of functional food production aiding diabetes patients beside their conventional treatment, therefore, is highly potential. According to traditional medical science knowledge, besides the main component, other auxiliary components are recommended to be added in order to support for functions of liver, kidney and spleen. However, combination of five medicinal herbs may cause implicitly hazards for consumers in certain times due to interactions between many compounds in plant extracts. Thus, the objective of this study is to determine the acute toxicity (LD50) value and evaluate sub-acute toxicity of the combined-five-herb extract. Key words: functional, hypoglycemic, acute, sub-acute, combined-five-herb.en_US
