The present study aimed to determine antioxidant and cytotoxin activities of extracts as well as compounds isolated from Scutellaria Barbata D.Don (SBt). Apigenin (SB1) and Luteolin (SB2) are two pure compounds which were purified from ethanol extract of S.barbata by column chromatography technique. In this work, the antioxidant activities were determined using 2,2’-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assays while vitamin C served as standard. The sulphorhodamine (SRB) assay was applied to identify cytotoxinity effects on two cancer cell lines: HepG2 and NCI-H460, which using Camptothecin as a positive control. In antioxidant assay, all extracts showed antioxidant activity. Moreover, Luteolin and Apigenin could inhibit strongly action of DPPH with IC50 value of 38µg/ml and 28.64µg/ml, respectively. For SRB assay, SBt did not present anticancer activities on HepG2 and NCI-H460 cancer cell line. However, SB1 and SB2 have shown moderate cytotoxinity against these caner cell lines. This result should partially explain the anticancer prevention activities of S.barbata. KEYWORDS: Scutellaria Barbata D.Don, Apigenin, Luteolin, DPPH assay, SRB assay.en_US
