Introduction: Streptococcus suis is a severe zoonotic pathogen that capable of causing severe invasive disease in human. Here we report the presence of S. suis and S. suis serotype 2 in Tiet canh samples. Methods: 30 Tiet canh samples were collected from 3 provinces and then processed and analyzed. DNA was extracted by using modified DNeasy Blood and Tissue kit. The presence of S. suis and S. suis serotype 2 was detected by DNA amplification using 16S rRNA gene conventional PCR and cps2J gene specific Real time PCR, respectively. The isolation of viable S. suis strain was performed by Bacterial culture. Results: In total, the presence of Streptococcus suis DNA was identified in 28 of 30 (93.33%) samples by DNA amplification method targeting at the 16S rRNA gene. The presence of S. suis serotype 2 was found in 14 of 30 (46.67%) tested samples. Viable S. suis strains were cultured from 6 (20%) Tiet canh samples.2 Conclusion: We reported the presence of viable S. suis and S. suis serotype 2 in Tiet canh, which for the first time provides evident to demonstrate that Tiet canh is as a possible source of human S. suis infection.
