Growth and carotenoids contents of Habmatococcus sp
Abstract
Unicellular green alga Haematococcus is known for their ability to produce
high antioxidant capacity as one of the key criteria in culture for commercial
production of keto-carotenoid astaxanthin. The growth rate of Haematococcus is
controlled and regulated by physical and chemical parameters. The aim of this study
was to investigate and compare the effect of various culture media, light intensities
and NaNO3 feeding treatments for the optimal growth of a local strain of
Haematococcus. Then they were stressed under high light intensity (250 μmol
photons m-2 s-1). The obtained result revealed that the local strain Haematococcus
was produced the highest cell concentration in BBM culture medium at the light
intensity of 30 μmol photons m-2 s-1 and 0.25g/L NaNO3 feeding.
