Effects of plant growth regulator on the growth of chlorella vulgaris
Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of auxin on the growth and metabolism of green micro alga Chlorella vulgaris. The study was done with three auxins including IAA, IBA, and NAA at different concentrations from 0.05 to 5 μM. C. vulgaris was cultured in F/2 medium and the salinity of 25ppt. The result showed that both NAA and IAA stimulated higher growth rates of C. vulgaris at concentration 0.5μM, while this effect of IBA was at 0.1 μM.NAA had the higher stimulating effect on algae at 0.5 μM on the 7thday of the culture period with maximum density 16.14 ±1.65 (x106 cells.mL-1), dry mass 6.19 ± 1.39 (mg.mL-1), 51.05 % protein, and 9.05% lipid of dry mass. The biomass of culture of C. vulgaris were done in flat-plate system (flat photobioreacter), modified F/2 medium under the light intensity 60 μmol.m-2.s-1, pH ranged from 7 to 8.5, the salinity of 25ppt and the temperature of 25oC. The result showed that algae C. vulgaris reached the highest biomass on 6th day with the density 10.09 ± 2.57 (x106 cells.ml-1) and the dry mass 1.29 ± 0.05 (mg.ml-1).
