Beta-carotene is a terpenoid pigment and they have high nutritional value as a precursor of vitamin A and its antioxidant properties. Dunaliella salina are well-known microalgae accumulating high levels of β-carotene under stress conditions. Therefore, the aim of this study was to select Dunaliella salina strains for highest total carotene, antioxidant capacity, phenolics and possible lipid under high light stress among 8 local strains (A9, A10, E, G, J, N, O, P) and 2 imported strains (D. Salina CCAP 19/18, D. Salina var.bardawil) which were cultured in MD4 medium with 1.5 M NaCl under optimal light intensity 50 μmol/m2/s and then subjected to high light stress of 800 μmol/m2/s for carotene induction. The obtained result revealed that D. Salina CCAP 19/18 had the highest concentration of total carotene per cell and per milliliter. Keywords: Algae, antioxidant, carotene, Dunaliella, phenolicsen_US
