dc.description.abstract | Breast cancer (BC), the most common type of cancer among women worldwide, is a polygenetic disease which is caused by interaction of several genes. Understanding the genetic factors for early diagnosis of BC is crucial to ensure the survival of BC patients. MiRNA 27a (miR-27a), an oncogenic miRNA, has been predicted to target tumor suppressor ZBTB10 to regulate many processes of cell. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs895819 alters structure and function of miR-27a, which has been anticipated to reduce risk of BC in different populations such as German and Chinese. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of SNP rs895819 in Vietnamese population using optimized HRM method. 106 extracted DNA samples from Vietnamese breast cancer cases and a well-designed pair of primers were implemented together to develop an optimal HRM protocol to genotype the SNP. Result showed the frequency of genotype AA, AG and GG were 41%, 46% and 12%, respectively; and allelic frequency of A and G were 64% and 36%, respectively. Although there were some distinct differences, this result was consistent with the result from previous studies conducted on German and Chinese population which proved the association between BC and this SNP. Eventually the result gave a suggestion to conduct association study to deeply investigate this SNP in Vietnamese population, with the vision of identifying effective marker for early diagnosis of BC in Vietnam
