Alkaloid constituents and anti -tumor activities from crinum latifolium leaves
Abstract
Two alkaloids, Undulatine (CL01) and CL04 were isolated from Crinum latifolium leaves. Their structures were elucidated by spectral methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), mass spectroscopy (MS) and compared with published data. These alkaloids and other fractions which had the high presence of alkaloids were tested for the inhibitory activities against cancer cell growth by sulforhodamine B colorimetric (SRB) assay. Among them, CL04, which was not pure enough to identify the structure, had no inhibitory activities against cancer cell lines. However, Undulatine (CL01) showed the potential inhibitory activity against MCF-7 cell line with IC50= 57.43 ± 2.79 (μg/mL), but lower inhibitory activity with Hela cell line with IC50= 88.52 ± 1.25 (μg/mL). The crude alkaloids extract from Crinum latifolium leaves also showed the inhibitory activity with MCF-7 cell line with IC50= 60.41 ± 2.53 (μg/mL).
