Detection of exiguobacterium indicum exoplysaccharides with biological activities
Abstract
Nowadays, cancer is the leading cause of death all over the world. Besides, drug resistant is also increasing fast. Thus, finding out the new compounds which has abilities in biological activities is necessary in pharmaceutical field. This study focused on study in the biological activities (antimicrobial, antioxidant and antitumor activities) of exopolysaccharides (EPS) from Exiguobacterium indicum PN04. Exiguobacterium indicum was cultured in 3 types of media including LB medium, LB-glucose medium and LB-sucrose medium at 37oC. The result showed that EPS from Exiguobacterium indicum which was cultured from LB medium gave the highest amount of EPS. The molecular weight of this EPS was determined by using gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and it was about 5000 to 100000 Da. The antimicrobial activity test was carried out basing on agar disk-diffusion method. The EPS showed the ability against the pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus ATCC (1.5 ± 0.7mm) and Listeria monocytogenes 17 (2.5 ± 0.7mm). Besides, EPS from Exiguobacterium indicum showed high percentage of cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cancer cell (98.65 ± 2.21 %) and Hep G2 cancer cell (94.5 ± 1.22 %). However, EPS did not show any effect on antioxidant activities in comparison to ascorbic acid. This was the first report on biological activities of EPS from Exiguobacterium indicum.
