Anti-atopic dermatitis activities of lonicera japonica thunb flavonoids.
Abstract
This research is aimed to determine the effect of Lonicera japonica Thunb
flavonoids loaded cream to treat the atopic dermatitis on mice. The purpose of
this study was to investigate the suitable percentage of cream containing
flavonoids extracted will reduce symptoms of atopic dermatitis significantly. To
apply on mice, four cream formulations containing flavonoids extract in different
concentration (0%, 1%, 2.5%, and 5%) were topically applied onto the dorsal
skin of 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzen-sensitized BALB/C mice once a day during 5
weeks. Cream base and Protopic (Tacrolimus 0.1%) were used as negative and
positive controls, respectively. All mice were induced to the assessment of AD-like
symptoms including the development of eczematous skin wound, severity of
pruritus and histological phenomenon. The results finally indicated that 5%
extract- loaded cream was significantly effective in reducing the dermatitis scores
from 75% to 37.5% (n=6, p=0.0334) and scratching behavior from 34.1% to
13.6% (n=6, p=0.0481) in week 5 compared to negative control while noticeably
reduced the symptoms of parakeratosis, spongiosis, acanthosis. In conclusion, the
experiment supported that 5% extract Lonicera japonica Thunb flavonoids –
loaded cream did inhibit the effect of AD – like symptom and express the
therapeutic potential in the approach to disease treatment.
