Green production of silver nanoparticle using aqueous extract of vernonia amygdalina del
Abstract
In my study, Vernonia Amygdalina was extracted under hot conditions (80oC) and then the extracts would be used for synthesizing silver nanoparticles based on the previously detected antioxidant activity of the plant extract. Characteristics of silver nanoparticles were analysed by the UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Antimicrobial activities test. Silver nanoparticles absorbed an absorbance at 430 nm in absorption spectra of UV-Vis spectroscopy. The silver nanoparticle had size range at about 30-130 nm and the shape of it was dominantly spherical. The antimicrobial tests showed the activities against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 (S. aureus), Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 (P. aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 (E. coli) using agar diffusion test. This is the first report suggesting that silver nanoparticles can be synthesized using green technology.
