Micropropagation of nelumno nucipera gaertin and assessment of antibacterial activity of its leaf extracts against klebsiella pneumoniae
Abstract
The ratio of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn - lotus seed germination was very low because the seeds have a hard, thick and waxy coat that is almost impermeable to water. Micro-propagation of embryo explants is a way to increase the ratio of germination and multiplication. Shoot proliferation was well induced in MS medium supplemented with 3 mg/ l Benzyl adenine (BA) while 0.1 mg/l and 0.3 mg/l of NAA were reported as the best concentrations for increasing shoot length and root formation, respectively. In addition, antibacterial activity of extracts from N. nucifera leaves against Klebsiella pneumoniae was also carried out. The results showed the ethyl acetate extract was higher active to K.pneumonia than the ethanolic and hexane extracts.
