Oral Vaccination of Tra Catpish (Pangasius hypopthalmus) with live attenuated Aeromonas hydrophila VACCINE
Abstract
Tra catfish production in Vietnam is currently being threatened by disease outbreaks, among them Hemorrhagic Disease by Aeromonas hydrophila is one of the most prominent, with high mortality rates. At Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh city, a mutant strain has been developed by aroA gene knockout method, disabling the bacteria’s toxicity, and giving potential for a live attenuated vaccine. This strain, M14, was used in this project as an orally delivered vaccine to verify protective efficacy against the virulent wild type in laboratory conditions. With the resulting Relative Percent Survival (RPS) being well above 60% on average, this method can be further refined to produce a commercially available oral vaccine against hemorrhagic disease for Tra catfish.
