Bi-Objective Optimization For Comapany Layout Planning (A case study in rolls-royce company)
Abstract
This thesis describes the solving method for the facility layout planning problem of a specified company Rolls-Royce in Dong Xuyen industrial zone, Vung Tau, Vietnam. Our task is to arrange a given number of departments in a company with available rooms and rooms which are assigned to the same department, must be adjacent with each other. In this paper, the bi-objective mixed non-linear programming model was first planned. The objectives include the total occupied room area and material handling cost among all the departments. The model is subsequently linearized for programming. With the purpose of obtaining Pareto optimal solutions, Goal Programming methodology is chosen to solve the model. Several types of layout will be suggested and examined under three criteria: material handling distance, material handling cost and the flexibility for moving inside the department and from this department to others. The best layout which provides the minimize value of the desired objectives, will be considered as an optimal solution. The complete result enables the company to apply for their layout arrangement in Q1-2019.
Key words: Bi-objective facility layout problem, Material handling cost, Rooms utilization, Linear Programming, Goal Programming.
