dc.description.abstract | Nutrients limitation has been a common and simple lipid induction technique in microalgae culture. This study aims to optimize the utilization of nitrogen and phosphorus during cultivation for favorable growth and lipid accumulation. Two microalgae strains Chlorella vulgaris and Nannochloropsis oculata were investigated for their potential growth and lipid accumulation at various nitrate levels and under different nutrients starvation conditions. The obtained data indicates that the optimal initial nitrate concentrations for growth and lipid yield of C. vulgaris and N. oculata were 0.09g/l and 0.18g/l, respectively. In addition, co-starvation of nitrogen and phosphorus can be efficiently manipulated to induce higher lipid accumulation with little changes in specific growth rate and growth productivity.
