dc.description.abstract | The growth of the economics leads to higher demand for using electricity and electrical products. To meet the demand growth, Thu Duc Electro – Mechanical Joint Stock Company (EMC) needs to expand its current facility as well as improve its production line efficiency. This thesis reports an application of Mixed-Integer Programming and simulation technique to help EMC with its facility layout planning. First, Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP) was used to propose a new block layout as new machines coming, which aimed to minimize the total travelling distance and the material moving time among stations. The MIP model was solved by CPLEX. Next, three layout options were simulated which included one layout was proposed by the company, the other two were generated by MIP model. For each option, different scenarios with different worker assignment policies were simulated. The best scenario which provide the highest number of outputs is selected for each option. Three best scenarios presented for three layouts were compared based on various criteria. The result is that the layout proposed by the company perform badly. The other layouts require the company to invest much at the beginning. However, they will help the company to save cost and generate more profit in the future.
