Evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of physalis angulata extract
Abstract
Physalis angulata is the great popularity plants and scientific interest, because of their antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials, the important biological characteristics. In the present study, all of the parts of P. angulata were collected and extracted by using a rotary evaporator by reducing the pressure. Methanol and ethanol were the potential solvents that were used to soak the samples. Then, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of P. angulata were investigated. Both concentrated samples exhibited strong antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. For antioxidant capacity, the concentrated from EtOH showed the strongest antioxidant ability and concentrated sample extracted by MeOH also displayed antioxidant activity. The P. angulata extract were found to have moderate to good antimicrobial activities against all microorganisms tested (Staphylococcus aureus; Bacillus subtilis), excepted for Escherichia coli. This study also indicates that MeOH is a better solvent to extract phenolic compounds than EtOH and EtOH is suitable for flavonoid extraction.
