Antibacterial activity and bioactive evaluation of plectranthus of amboinicus essentail oil
Abstract
Plectranthus amboinicus is widely known in Vietnam and widely distributed in
Tropical Africa, Asia and Australia because of its effective essential oil, which is
considered as an ingredient in medicine, food, homemade remedies. The purpose
of this study is to figure out the most efficiency extraction conditions to extract
essential oil from P. amboinicus. The optimized conditions for MAE were at 110oC,
at the ratio of fresh sample to solvent of 1:1.5 (g/ml) in 3 hours. Antimicrobial trials
showed that P. amboinicus essential oil was effective against both Gram-positve
and Gram-negative bacteria including S.Aureus, S.Mutans, S.Typhi, and E.coli. In
terms of total phenolic and flavonoid content, P. amboinicus essential oil had
significant amount (TPC = 82.03 ± 0.98 ug/mg) and also exhibited high antioxidant
activity (determined by DPPH assay).
